Here are some reviews and comments about our Ostfront event.

One of the best events I have been to yet. this was my first time there; the trenches, shell holes, barbed wire ,etc.! Beautiful!
The Russians really gave us hell, they were great. Does anyone know who won? I know it was close.

This was the most action Ive ever had at Newville doing WWII, and I really had a fantastic time. The refs really did a super job. The terrain made advancing and attacking quite frustrating, as attacking against an entrenched enemy would be. The sniper fire, radioed in and marked off by judges became another frustration as men who lingered in the open could expect to be picked off without even hearing the shot go off! The mortarmen on the German side were zeroing in with incredible accuracy after only a few rounds and decimating our stalled attacks. Myself and a comrade even had the previledge of being captured and interrogated by the Germans, in first-person German, which was the highlight of my weekend. Everyone was friendly and the usual "I shot you" type remarks were unseen and unecessary. This event is my favorite so far this season, only to be topped if we ever do an Ostfront event were the Germans actually go on the offensive! (Ive actually never seen it, ha!) Thanks to everyone, especially the Germans who faught hard, played fair and played along!

Great event, thanks to Harry and the rest of the judges.
dcomes- ha! you sneaky russkies, good thing i spotted those grenades you were reaching for! we had more russian language to use, only the rain sogged it up and glued it to my soldbuch. The weather was nasty, which was great. scenario was a lot of fun, i have to hand it to the russian opfor, they were charged and very honourable to deal with, and kept us on our toes! I was very impressed with the mortar team's accuracy and the snipers well guided by judge calls, really amped it up. it was my first newville event, and i'm hooked, worth the drive down from canada.

Everyone already stole my thunder....it was great, thanks for a great event Harry!! Weather could have been better...but we made the best of it. My first Russian front event...and I hope not the last, we need more of these events, you Ruskies were great combatants. I officially was a worn out dog after this event, but it was well worth it! If you do this particular event(time frame), we may come as SS Fallschirmjager, since they were deployed to Budapest at that particular time of the war, and coincidently my family is from Budapest. Thanks again, and for those who were a no show...you missed a great event!!

I would like to thank Harry, and the rest of the 4th.SS for throwing another great event ! Some points I would like to make:

The good:

The event was at Newville...LOL Need I say anymore. Despite the serious problem of overgrowth of plants, it is always a great place to battle in. If you have not done it before you are missing a great event. The judges did a excellent job, and were on the ball as far as I could see. Our opponents fought very well, and did a great job. I appauled your tanacity, and desire to give it your best effort. I only wish we had more events like this one. As Russians please consider doing more of these events in the future since it beats the hell out of fighting the American A.B any day of the week. I heard in a previous post how it would be great for the Germans to attack you.... Well if we keep having these event I would gladly take you up on that challenge! Once again Ost front events seem to be the future of reenacting in my opinion and we need to work together to make them happen! Once again Russians it was a pleasure, and a challenge fighting you.........

The Bad:

The G.W.A needs to have some serious work parties to fix some of the trench lines. While I understand that certain trench lines belong to specific units they need to get up on that, since it looked like Mother Earth was reclaiming them. Please don't let this site go down the drain.

The ugly:

The poison Ivy.... Plain and simple. i am just recovering from it now..... I had to go to the hospital and get steroids, and other meds to combat this stuff. I can see why they call it the " Newville crud" well I guess I belong to this special club now...... It sucks!

Once again myself, and my unit had a great time, and can't wait for the next event the 4th.SS has. They REALLY know what they are doing................

Humidity seems to be a part of any and every event in the Mid Atlantic region these days! Despite that, it was a great event. I enjoyed seeing you again and meeting the rest of the guys. I'd say that we fought pretty darn good! I'm still laughing about a few things, like the Polish "taunting/cursing" contest with the Germans and Mikolaj's declaration of the "Polish machine gun", then there's the infamous Rafal's "they're coming, ahhh!!" but we wont go into too much detail with that one

It was a physically demanding event that's for sure. Had I taken it a bit easier on the field, I would have stayed and partied afterwards but after the battle I felt worse and worse. I was able to keep up with guys on the field all day long but afterwards I lost the battle. This was my first "LWP" Eastern front event, I hope to do many more!

One more thing - Harry, very well done! That must have been a bear to organize everything but I think it came along very well. The judging was fair, everyone played nice and it was certainly an event to remember. Hats off to you! Also - thanks for allowing us to yet again "take you prisoner". How many pics are there now of you being taken prisoner, being executed, being interrogated ??

Hi All, This was a excellent event and worth driving 10 hours to be there. It was nice seeing all of you and meeting some of you for first time. This was a first for me as far the humidity goes....my uniforms are sill drying ;-)

This was really a great event. I haven't had such fun at a tactical in a very long time. I think we all performed very well as a unit. A good time, but very exhausting. It would have been interesting to weigh ourselves before and after the battle...lol. Hope everyone is recovering.

Overall, it was an interesting weekend with some definite highs and lows. The organizers did a pretty good job overall. Getting a little more info at registration would have been helpful. It was Saturday afternoon before we realized we had a portajohn in the woods behind our campsite. Knowing that would have saved the women in our group some long hikes. It also gives you some idea of the extent of the undergrowth. Still I had fun and will probably go back if they have it next year. We opposed some German forces that we don’t see all that often and got to experience a fairly large RKKA camp. I believe we had five of the big Russian squad tents!
